We LOVE our special events! These are water workshops Unphiltered Kayaking has uniquely created to combine team building, advancing skills, lots of practical application, and tons of fun! They are sprinkled throughout the kayaking season so watch for them on the calendar. Each has their own specific purpose, so check them out and see how we can provide a great day or weekend of activities for you individually or your group!
Aqua Boot Camp
Always plenty of pics of the day’s events, including the team photo!
A full day event, the Aqua Boot Camp is one of the most FUN and challenging ways to team build in North Alabama. Set on the shores of beautiful Lake Guntersville, your group will be focused on teamwork with on-land and in-water challenges! Everyone, and we mean everyone, can participate. We provide a catered lunch as well as event t-shirts for the entire group, with costs for groups of 20-30 around $50 per person (Contact me for specifics). Come strengthen the bonds of your group in a fun-filled day that will leave everyone smiling, laughing and loving what they just did…together! Perfect for athletic teams, groups of employees, teacher-inservices, scouts, homeschool groups, or even large family get-togethers!
Teamwork = Success
Teamwork. Nothing is more important in the business world. Successful companies rely on the best teamwork to achieve their short and long term goals. Churches and civic groups use that same teamwork to accomplish their missions as well.
As a USMC veteran, these Aqua Bootcamps remind me of my time in boot camp, with the exception of the screaming drill instructors, the 30 mile hike with full loads, etc.– you get the picture. But, the Marine Corps instilled in me self-discipline and sacrifice, and as a coherent team we were able to overcome obstacles that independently we could have never conquered.
There will be lots of laughter (unlike USMC bootcamp), but I still keep a rigid timeline on each challenge. As a leader in charge of many, you will see cohesion and purpose, which translate right back into your work environment, church or civic group. We have a proven schedule of events that have been fine tuned for adults, but can also be used by scouting groups as well.
Contact us for specifics and to set up your day of Aqua Boot Camp!
Every member of each team is an active participant, whether in helping or doing, just like in the real world. Every member counts.
Women on the Water Weekend
The only workshop exclusively for women kayakers. WOWW is only for women, taught by some of the best female instructors in the Southeast and Eastern US. This is a once a year opportunity, with a limited class size to maximize student to instructor ratios. The WOWW is a weekend of learning and fellowship with other female paddlers from around the region. Unphiltered Kayaking supplies the logistical legwork, secures a rental home for the students if requested, and provides a Saturday evening meal around a campfire on the shores of Lake Guntersville. ACA certified female instructors from all over the United States do all the teaching. This class is a huge success and long-lasting friendships are made between paddlers from all regions.
There is a difference between many male and female paddling techniques. Sorry guys, females may be more flexible, which is everything in kayaking. Stay tuned for the 2017 date, and ditch the guys, this is just for the ladies!
Skills Advancement Weekend
The SAW, or Skills Advancement Workshop, includes everyone, male and female, and any kind of kayak, sit-on-tops, inflatables, etc. This event is all about making every student a more skillful, safer and better prepared paddler to handle any paddling related incident they may encounter. This class saves lives, friends.
Up to five ACA certified Instructors are what makes this class amazing. What does that mean? TONS of 1 on 1 time with instructors as they help you learn and hone in different strokes, practice assisted and unassisted rescue skills, and make you the best you can be on the water! On land classes teach group management, trip planning, and risk assessment topics. A filling hobo campfire meal is provided Saturday evening and a campfire to top it all off.
This vitally important course will be offered in the spring, summer and fall this year. This course leaves you confident in your advanced padding skills, confident in your own rescue skills, confident in your ability to rescue someone else, and confident to plan and safely lead group paddling trips.
