Trip Planning and the weather
Hey gang!! With all the serious posts we’ve had lately, we just want you to have fun on the water in all our summer weather splendor!! It is Alabama, folks, the weather WILL change on a dime! Just be prepared and you’ll have a wondrous time on our waters!
That being said, just keep a weather eye for our pop-up storms via your weather apps. Follow two simple rules: 1: be Safe and 2. Have fun.
Being prepared for anything that could arise, weather wise, is your greatest asset. But, what if you are on the water and one of our afternoon pop-up storms arises? Paddle to the shore, secure your kayaks together (use a rope through the deck lines) and to a tree. Shelter yourselves in a safe spot on the shore and wait the storm out. Being on the water in a kayak in lightning is very dangerous. Get on land. If there is no lightning but rain and a little wind, raft up together by the shore and ride it out. It’s fun! Then, when it’s safe to paddle again, finish your journey.
Be safe and live to paddle another day.
